The Best Sausage Quiche Recipe
This Sausage Quiche Recipe is the best quiche you’ll find on the internet, so stop searching — you have found it!
The star of the show for this recipe is the homemade turkey sausage. And let me tell you, it’s tasty. As a southerner, I love me some pork. Growing up, we slaughtered pigs and made homemade sausage, so my inspiration for this turkey sausage quiche comes primarily from my upbringing. Although you can definitely make this recipe with pork sausage, this recipe calls for ground turkey and a few spices and herbs to bring that delicious pork flavor. In this recipe, I am going for an Italian sausage vibe so I primarily use Italian seasoning to build my flavor profile but you can also add some sage if you are going for a traditional country sausage vibe.

Ingredients You’ll Need for this Sausage Quiche
Egg Mixture
Crust: I used a frozen, deep dish, 9-inch pie crust for this recipe. However, feel free to use your favorite homemade crust!
Eggs: are the base of this quiche and helps create the custard.
Half-and-Half: to help create that rich custard base you will also need half and half.
Veggies: We are using a combination of onion, red bell peppers, and green bell peppers for this recipe.
Cheese: We are using a sharp cheddar cheese for this recipe for additional flavor and delicious gooeyness.
Ground Turkey Sausage
Ground Turkey: I use lean ground turkey, but you can use whatever ground turkey you like for this recipe.
Seasoning: I used a combination of salt, crushed fennel seeds, Italian seasoning, red pepper flakes, black cracked pepper, and paprika for this recipe.
Olive Oil: helps add a little fat to the turkey sausage and helps ensure it doesn’t stick to the pan.
Garlic: I used fresh garlic in this recipe, which aids in the flavor.
How to Make This Sausage Quiche Made with Turkey Sausage
Step 1: Pre-bake your pie crust according to the packing instructions. Set aside once the crust is pre-baked.
Step 2 Preheat the oven to 400F.
Step 3: Cook your Turkey Sausage. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the olive oil. Then, add the ground turkey to the hot skillet. Next, add your salt, fennel seeds, Italian seasoning, red pepper flakes, black pepper, and paprika. Brown the turkey, breaking it up as it cooks. When the turkey is almost browned, add your minced garlic. Once the turkey is browned, remove from the skillet and place in a large mixing bowl and set it aside. Pro tip: crush the fennel seeds with a mortar and pestle or wrap the seeds in plastic wrap or paper towel and roll a rolling pin over them to crush them before adding to the skillet.

Step 4: Sauté Vegetables. In the same heated skillet you cooked the sausage, add a tablespoon of olive oil. Add the onion and bell pepper to the skillet and cook over medium-high heat for 7-10 minutes. The pepper and onion should be tender. Once the onion and pepper are done, add them to the same mixing bowl as the sausage.

Step 5: Make Egg Mixture. In a medium-large bowl, add the eggs, half and half, salt, and pepper to a large mixing bowl. Whisk together until well combined. Whisk in the cheese and pour the egg mixture into the bowl with the sausage, peppers, and onions. Stir until combined.

Step 6: Next, pour the quiche mixture into your pre-baked crust. Then, bake the quiche at 400 degrees for 25-30 minutes or until crust is golden brown and the egg is slightly puffed and set. Finally, remove from the oven and let cool for 10-15 minutes before slicing.

FAQs
How do I prevent a soggy crust when making turkey quiche?
To prevent a soggy crust, you can blind-bake (pre-bake) the pie crust before adding the filling. Simply line the pie crust with parchment paper or foil, fill it with pie weights or dried beans, and bake it according to the recipe’s instructions until it’s lightly golden brown. This creates a barrier that helps keep the crust crisp.
Can I use pre-cooked turkey sausage in quiche?
Yes, you can use pre-cooked turkey sausage in quiche. Simply slice or crumble the sausage and incorporate it into the quiche filling as directed in your recipe.
Can I substitute ingredients in a turkey sausage quiche recipe?
Yes, quiche recipes are flexible, and you can often substitute ingredients based on personal preference or availability. For example, you can use different types of cheese, swap turkey sausage for regular sausage or another type of meat, or adjust the vegetables according to your taste.
Can I Make Quiche Ahead of Time?
Yes! If you want, you can do some prep in advance to save time!
Make the egg custard – you can make the egg custard up to 1-2 days in advance and store in an airtight container in the fridge until you are ready to use.
Make the filling – you can also make the turkey sausage and veggie filling in advance and store in the fridge until you are ready to use it as well.
Make the pie crust – if you are making a homemade pie crust, then go ahead and prep the dough and keep in the fridge until you’re ready to roll it out and assemble the quiche.
